Company: Digital media company providing personalized products in the retail market

Support over 25,000 retail locations creating over 18 million transactions annually for retail partners

Solution/Tactics:

Launch and sustain Agile to improve development quality, speed to market, customer and employee satisfaction

Karas Wilders Consulting was hired to assess the situation and develop an implementation plan which included the following:

Identifying a pilot team, training the team of 8 and briefing the customer on the Agile process and benefits and building the product backlog

Immersing a coach with the team for a period of 4 months to observe behaviors and provide real time feedback

Results of Pilot team evaluated and considered successful by the company leadership and retail partner

Supported IT wide launch of Agile over 12 months

Conducted Agile overview workshops for 160 employees, contractors and retail partners, Product Owner Workshops for 15 Product Owners

Agile Team Workshops for seven teams total of 48 attendees and 2 offshore teams

Periodically observed the team progress on site and provided coaching support following the launch of

 

Results:

Seven teams running 2 week sprints in parallel

Quarterly releases were replaced with monthly releases improving speed to market and client satisfaction

Client tested and accepted work during each sprint which replaced the large scale UAT testing model previously required

Client involvement during the sprint enabled teams to focus on building high value software improving efficiency

The quality of code improved with each sprint due to test driven development and having QA on the teams working with developers as they built code

Company: Leading provider of revenue and payment cycle management and clinical information and exchange solutions connecting payers, providers and patients in the U.S. Healthcare system

Over 25 locations in the United States, the company works with partners outside of the U.S. for assistance with software development

 

Challenge:

Business partners were dissatisfied with the products or software that was being delivered and the time it took to deliver.

Conducting training for 3 teams with a total of 18 participants with the majority being located offshore in addition to providing training for 18 Scrum Masters and 10 Product Owners

Immersing a coach with the team for a period of 12months to observe behaviors and provide real time feedback

 

Results/Conclusion:

At the end of our engagement business was driving development which was primarily due to their level of commitment to the team as well as the technical team’s willingness to focus on delivering software valued by customers.
